Hi!

I noticed that GUI across the entire system on iOS15 is microstuttering / lagging with low power mode on independently if remaining battery charge is 90% or 10% on iPhone 13 Pro. Seems thst there is simply not enough power to drive the GPU smoothly.

It is definitely not an expected behaviour.

Well, but not to have a feature which makes choppy user / screen experience.

This is probably the reason on macOS also (30Hz):

Low Power Mode throttles the SOC. Everything runs slower.
Run a geek bench test with it on and see for yourself.

Uh

It’s the definition of expected behaviour.

The system is limiting power by starving the cpu, GPU and screen.

Something has to lose out and that thing is system responsiveness and processing of background applications.

never seen that type of behavior with user interface with previous iOS versions and low power mode enabled

That is what I am talking about - I know it throttles SoC but it should be ‘balanced’ and there are probably ‘smarter/more advanced’ ways to save power on advanced OS / chip, rather than simply lagging basic functions like GUI experience.

It is not a good idea to let your battery run below 20%.

You are most likely used to the 120hz refresh rate and when putting on low battery mode, it locks the refresh rate down. The entire system feels choppy and stuttery, its because of the refresh rate. Try just turning on 60hz and using it, see if you notice the same thing.

I’ve just updated an older iPad Pro to iPadOS15 and this low power mode is driving me crazy with its lousy frame rate and aggressive screen dimming. I can’t remember, is low power mode completely new in 15 or is it just these particular ‘features’?
