All 8 dimm slots in use.
Is it possible to read from here which slot is faulty?

When I had an ECC error from the RAM in one of the slots I could see it in the About This Mac > System Report > Memory. You might check there for any RAM that shows something other than OK in the Status column.

I just don't have an os installed now.
Would be much more fun to install os without faulty DIMM...
1,5 years ago the problem didn't show up in the os. And then hdd corrupted, fusion drive died, etc... Faulty memory can play a part in these...

Can you check System Report within os installer?

Did you look to see if you have any red LEDs lit on the memory riser cards? Those would correspond to the faulty memory.

Got the problem sorted out.
At least one extended test passed without an error.
Problem was combination of one faulty dimm and wrongly grouped dimms.
I didn't check how grouping should be done and got the wrong way, since when you install only 2 dimms, it's one for each riser. So the "pair" is between the risers. But after that, with 2-4 pairs, the pairs are within one riser.

The 3,1 is now happily heating my apartment with unusually cold winter here in Helsinki, Finland.
Running rosetta@home with 22 gigs of ram.
Next, when I have some free time, I'll start learning about mining bitcoins...

The red led was lit with faulty dimm. Ans swapping the pair did lit the other risers led. This ruled out faulty riser or faulty mb. But the led didn't lit when dimms were in wrong order. But AHT did report the mystical error.
