I just bought a new (well, Apple refurbished) M3 iMac with Mac OS Sonoma. Thing is I’m upgrading from a 2011 21.5 iMac that was running High Sierra. Now while a lot of the OS is reasonably familiar there are distinct differences and there are things quite unfamiliar as well as unknown.

I used to have an excellent guide called The Manual That Should Have Come In The Box by David Pogue. It was written in clear language with lots of nice screenshots to illustrate the text. I would like an updated guide to help me become more familiar with current Mac OS. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like David Pogue writes these books anymore so I’m looking for a good alternative.

Any recommendations?

From Apple:

Maybe:

Amazon:
Search for "macOS Sonoma" - lots of results.

Technical blogs:
Howard Oakley https://eclecticlight.co/m1-macs/ and other sections of his web site. (Not for beginners).

Thanks for the suggestions everybody! I did a google search and it brought me here, ha ha. Will peruse google some more and the eclectic light link, which looks promising. Trying to get back into computing on a desktop instead of just my phone after years of doing so. I am very rusty and a lot has changed in the last decade. Used to be an OS 9 master and now I feel like a luddite.

I just bought a ...Mac with Mac OS Sonoma. Thing is I’m upgrading from ... High Sierra
Did the same stunt some week ago. Quite terrible what Apple all thought needs to be changed, one is forced to go and search ...

E.g., setting up sharing was a nightmare, partially b/c of lost functionality, but mostly the consistency within System Settings has been lost/made different. + many more things. Apple, wtf ...

With a 2012 MBP9,1 one could share the internet connection, coming via Ethernet, using Bluetooth to an iPhone. That possibility is gone. Why - b/c of hardware? I have difficulties to believe that.
