I was speaking with this cingular rep on my break from work today and he informed me quite politely (nice ****ing change) that the plan would for sure be 40$ on top of the voice plan. I thought that was a little irresponsible for him to say that since i check these forums and realize that it could be completely different come launch time from what people are saying around here. This guy seemed pretty damn sure and he got very displeased with me when i called him out on it in front of a family that was listening in on our conversation and asking questions as well. He also told me that this shortage rumor may be hogwash seeing that either company does not want people shooting each other and robbing each other to get these toys. I don't know how accurate this is, but lets refrain from the 'Your a liar' crap because i have no reason to lie. Take it for what you will...

He is talking out is arse. He doesn't know those details. The cost of the data plan hasn't been announced, he is just using the prices he has listed for current service.

On top of that, anyone who believes there will be a ton of these phones is smoking crack cocaine. Apple has had about 1 month to produce the phones. How many can they make in a month ? 100k, 200k, 300k ? I doubt anything more then that. Production is always slow at first, until it ramps up. Sure, by the end of the year they could produce 500k+ per month ... but that takes time.

I believe you totally that they said that. Sales guys love to come up with very interesting things that make no sense. Hell, to get you to buy something they might even try to convince you, that you are Jesus Christ, they sky is pink, and that Windows is the most stable, secure OS on the planet ....

Details will leak out in 2 weeks or so ... not sooner.

Scott Bourne, who has at least some credibility when it comes to Mac news, claims that an AT&T representative told him that no reports of iPhone plan details or prices should be considered reliable since the plans and prices haven't yet been decided on. No one knows, including Apple and AT&T.

And AT&T store managers will know about a week after any random person on this forum.

I wouldn't buy it and just wait until it's officially announced and just accept that it will be between $20 and $40.

Let's assume data will be $40. What about unlimited phone?

Say I have a Spring unlimited with data.... Should I expect moving to AT&T would be a wash? Under normal circumstances (non-iPhone).... it would be - right?

(My husband gets his phone/service paid for by his work which uses Sprint, he thinks Data is $40. I'm trying to work up to present a case/valid argument he can use to get the company to switch him to AT&T. If it's at least a wash, I think he can pull this off then I can play with the phone all I want to when he's home!)....

And I wonder if AT&T sucks as bad as people say it does. I have no phone and the various plans/companies confuse me. I mean, due to the extensive tie with AT&T, should we expect this plan to be very competitive? I'm starting to think so.

My AT&T Rep said they don't know anything yet....as did my Apple Rep.

The one thing the Cingular/AT&T guy did say was I'd be able to move the SIM card in and out, I wasn't too sure about that, but I came home and read that it was an offical that you could, so he seems like he knows what he was talking about.(Basicly he said, they don't really know much now)

Salespeople invariably 'have' to be in the know.

Thing is, many times they actually believe their fantasies and will become offended when you suggest that perhaps they are full of it.

It would make an interesting studying the psychology of delusional salesperson as a phenomena of anticipated product release.

Maybe then we can acurately gauge the BS factor and prevent a needless wasting of time and misinformation

If they aren't subsidizing the phone cost, I would at least hope for a reasonable plan. I'm not spending this kind of money just cause it has an "Apple" stamp on it.

Yeah I recently went , about 10 minutes ago since the corporate store near me is about 3 minutes driving, The guy told me they were going to carry it on the 29 and basically he was trying to convince me to get another line so I can get it cheaper, I was like no thanks and He didnt even know what day the 29th falls on. what an idiot, Somehow I didnt trust him, I'm gonna try to call a day or two before I think about camping outside that store.

How would getting another line make it cheaper?

Hmm, I just thought of something. You would think there would be SOME kind of incentive to sign a 2-year agreement when you buy an iPhone. Otherwise, why not sign-up with another phone and get the $150 off, get an iPhone separately, then sell the first phone to make a few bucks?

I dunno he just told me it would be better. So I'm guessing he was just trying to make some comission or maybe it will be cheaper by becoming a new customer or getting a new line, He didn't go into details since I told him I couldn't change my number for a new one. I can't afford to change my number since I been a cingular Customer Since 2000. Then my friends will hate me LOL

I already pay like $40 + $15 through Cingular. That amounts to something like $65 a month. For me, having to pay $40 for a data plan isn't a huge deal (but it's also something I'd rather not do).
