Or you just risk it? My fear is if it hits the plates or bars accidentally.

Which is better between a case or screen protector? Or you just go nude?

I have a home gym but whenever I workout or do any DIY/gardening, I put a sweat band on over my watch. I keep one in my pocket at all times when at home.

I had a case on my AW8. Broke the screens on 3 or 4 of them in 2 years (not all in the gym though), but the watch still looks brand new.

I haven't put anything on my AWU2 yet.

I’ve never needed one. And I work out 3-5 times a week.
The screen on the higher end ones is sapphire glass, so you most likely will never scratch it.

Both; no way I'd train without either for my AWU2

I'm fortunate enough that I have everything I need to train in my garage; but I've still managed to catch my watch a few times and the case / screen protector have done their job

However, my training isn't standard run of the mill etc... A mix of powerlifting / heavy grip and stone lifting etc

I do tend to take my watch off when I'm faffing with the stones though...

I got a clip-on screen protector for my S8 and have used one since. I currently have one for my U2. To be fair, there were no issues until I used the cable crossover machine a few times and found the handle/chain rubbed slightly against the side scuffing the Watch.

Did not think to cover my watch a single day .. working out with the millanaise loop or other metal bands. Stainless steel S7 no issues for over 2,5 years now

Steel is mostly smooth. As long as you don’t hit it really hard, it shouldn’t be an issue.

One time when I really messed up a watch crystal (not AW) was when I reached behind a hose reel while kneeling, got slightly off balance and ran the watch across a brick wall. It looked like somebody took a diamond file to it.
