I am off to the US next week. If I get an iPhone over there can I bring it back to the UK and hack it over here??

Cheers

correct, it will be OOB 1.1.2

Hang on, I've been told new Iphones in the USA from week 43 onwards contain firmware 1.1.2 as standard, which means the bootloader is not hackable, i.e. same as the UK Iphones.

sorry, I simply wanted to point out it would not be v1.1.1... you have correctly pointed out an additional complication, my bad! :)

and I reíterate to the OP... be careful and check the crack.

As far as I understand it, it currently goes like this:

v1.1.1 phones can be hacked and unlocked

v1.1.1 phones which have been voluntarily upgraded to v1.1.2 can also be "re-hacked" and unlocked

if it is v1.1.2 OOB (out of the box) then at the current time... you are screwed.

HTH, H.
