Hacked My Computer Through IP?

Yesterday a friend of mine showed me how to access everything I have done in my computer from websites I have visited, pictures, links, IMs, pretty much everything I do in my computer. The thing is he didn't hack into my computer (I have recently done a restore in my computer about 5 days ago and he accessed data from August 1st), he has never even come to my house before. He signed up for one of those spy softwares (it was not downloaded into his computer)... anyways, how can I block people from checking my personal information? I thought Macs were safer than Windows machines. I am not sure if he did that through IP...Does anybody know a website that offers that service? Isn't that illegal? My main concern is blocking people from accessing my personal information and pages I have visited....

Any help will be highly appreciated.

We have no way of knowing whether he is telling the truth or not.

If you have Remote Access turned on, then anyone with the correct password can access your machine. Go into System Preferences: Sharing and uncheck all of the options there.

Go to System Preferences: Sharing: Firewall and turn it on

Also, if you use a router or gateway, change the administrative password on it to something other than the factory default (check the router's manual)

And remember: if someone has physical access to the machine while you are logged in all security bets are off. They can see what they want. download anything to a USB key, etc. If they guess your password, they can install programs. If they have access to the boot CD/DVD, then they can change your password and install software

You can be hacked with your IP information (so that X can find and locate your computer) but not directly.

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes he was telling the truth, he showed me every page I have visited since August 15th. I met him through a friend on August 18th so there was no way he could have hacked into my computer.
He showed every page I went to, all my chat transcripts, how is that possible?

You probably, without realising downloaded a file via MSN/IM client and he screencaptured/keylogged you. Just reformat again, seeing as you did it so soon, and you'll be safe. Ignore the grub.

You are being played. I don't know how you are being played, but you are. How did your friend show that he had the information that he claimed to have?

No, that's only on the LAN side of the router. On the WAN side, it won't show anything unless you have any port forwarding set up.

It's easy to be confused, if not scared, when you don't know much about computer networking and security. Unfortunately, without knowing many details about your set up and the circumstances of this 'trick' it's almost impossible to figure out what happened.
