Hacked off with Adobe Reader

I've retro installed Acrobat Reader 5.1 from having Reader 6.0 installed. Reason? Apple-H hides all the open windows in one go with 5.1, whereas you've got to individually minimise (via yellow button) in 6.0. May not seem much, but winds me up enourmously.

Anyone else irritated by this, or even noticed, or is it just me?

And scrolling the contents list positively flies in 5.1, versus the sluggish behaviour of 6.0.

What was the benefit of 6.0?

I haven't noticed that problem, but that annoying eBooks folder Reader keeps stashing in my docs folder is getting to be a pain...but I just use Preview for pdf viewing. Once the speedy Panther Preview comes, I don't think I'll miss reader at all...

i hear ya... that's one of the features i'm most excited about. I refuse to use Acrobat because it takes so long to load up, and I hate using preview because once it's loaded, it's a total slug to use. Blah. I thought PDF integration was built-in to the OS? So why are PDF files so problematic??

One thing I noticed is that Preview only shows the page when it is fully rendered, whereas Acrobat Reader shows the page immediately and adds elements as they are rendered.

I guess this is the reason why the current Preview is perceived to be slower. It probably takes the same time for both of them to fully render a page, but you see the results earlier wit Acrobat Reader. Plus, it lets you switch a page not fully rendered yet. But the startup is real slow... *sigh* There's hoping for Panther here...

Acrobat Reader has a problem for me that when it first opens a file, the scrollbar is grayed and I can only look at the first page. I have to close the document and reopen it, then the scrollbar is active. Weird.

Personally, I'd rather have HTML or some variant thereof, or even TIFF, than PDF. PDF files are huge, slow and proprietary.

I haven't used Adobe Reader 6.0 on Mac, but suspect it's not very different from Windows. I have Acrobat 5.0, but now read all my documents only in the Adobe Reader 6. Why? For a very simple reason.

I am a PhD student and have to read a lot of papers on my laptop screen. Some of the papers were written years ago in a ps format and looked terrible when converted to pdf. The font becomes so pixelated, that makes it difficult to read. Still a mystery to me why, only affects some of the papers. But I was really happy to find out that in Adobe Reader 6 they look perfect. So I don't care if it's a bit slower.

I installed 6 a while ago but found it ridiculously slow so I went back to 5. At least, I attempted to. I couldn't get 5 to run once I'd put 6 on there. I eventually reinstalled OS X and stayed with 5.

A while later, I came across a PDF that required Acrobat 6 . So I installed 6 again, but didn't delete 5. After reading that 700 page PDF (I'd hate to do that with a desktop, good thing I can sit on the couch with my iBook), I tried 5... and it worked! So now 6 is long gone and I'm happily using 5 again
