Edit: This game is now officially released.

Hello everyone,

I hope I am not breaking any rules with this posting.
If so, please delete it.

I would like to announce the Mac gaming community that we are almost done with the Mac port of our popular game,
Hacker Evolution: Untold
Hacker Evolution: Untold homepage

You may download the Mac demo from here:
Hacker Evolution: Untold Mac Demo

It's still in beta stage (we have taken all steps to make sure it works ok).
If you spot any bugs or issues, please let me know.

This is our first Mac game (we are developing indie games for 6 years now).
I hope the Mac community will find our addition of value, and we hope to release Mac versions for all our future games.

Which doesn't seem to help me...
It takes me to a press release, which links to the same place you linked to previously, a page listing windows specs. All I see on the linked to page is a "Download" and "Buy" button. The Download button downloads a windows .exe file.

What am I missing?

Arghh ... sorry about that.
Here it is:

I have also fixed the link in the original post.

It's "like" Uplink in the way that both games are hacking simulations.
The gameplay is however completely different from the one in Uplink.

Gave the demo a shot and it seems pretty good. A few minor annoyances, though, which you may want to look into:

1. Mouse movement unbearably slow. It would be nice to be able to change that or use the operating system's current setting.

2. Holding delete/backspace in console should delete all characters, it's annoying to have to tap the key repeatedly.

3. Not sure if it was just me, but I was unable to complete the first mission where you break into the main corporate server. Followed the instructions and "login main.corporate.com mywordismypassword" gave me a "failed" message for port 99, when I was using the exact text I was instructed to.

4. Feels like a port overall, made me more interested in the Windows version than the Mac version. It's a little sluggish feeling.

Hope you take this as constructive criticism. I am genuinely interested in this game. I've spent countless hours with Uplink years ago.

@ebel3003

1. That's weird. What system are you using? It runs fine on my Mac Mini (Dual Core 1.8)

2. Since it's not a text editor and it doesn't involve a heavy amount of text editing/deleting ... I never thought of that

3. It hacks the service on port 49 (and fails on port 99). It's normal. Any exploit will work on a certain service that runs on a certain port. Try it again at look at the output :)

4. There are really NO differences between the Mac and Windows versions. It was one of our targets.

Thanks for the feedback. We are a very open and listening company :)

1. I'm using a hackintosh that I built, see the signature. It's just tracking is really slow for my taste. I use a G5 gaming mouse with max sensitivity on max dpi, and I find the tracking to be extremely slow. Perhaps it's the resolution that the game plays at? I can screen capture normal mouse movement if you want to see a comparison of what I'm used to and what it's like in game.

2. It's nice for typos towards the beginning of a command. :)

3. I didn't spend a whole lot of time with the demo, but I'll give it another go when I have a chance.

1. I think it's something with your system. The mouse works fine in both Windows and Mac. I will however see into this issue.

2. You can move to the begining of the word and delete the letter there. No need to delete everything to get back at the begining.

3. Please do so :)

1. Same result on my MacBook Pro :(

It's just a speed issue I can get used to, nothing game-breaking and the average person wouldn't notice a difference.

Just checked again on the PC build and in the Mac build (on my Mac Mini) ... in both of them the mouse is as fast as in the OS.

We will however look into this to make sure everything is ok with the mouse.

What limitations does the demo have? When is the full version scheduled. I loved uplink, and I am seriously excited about this game, i love the command line game play. However lack of a manual or clear instructions make it a bit complicated.

Hi,

There is a manual, but I think it's not included in this distro.
You can download it from here:
HackerEvolutionUntold-Manual.zip

Limitations of the demo:
- Only the first 3 levels are included
- Custom game mods can't be loaded
- Hiscore reporting off.

In terms of gameplay elements, there are no restrictions in the demo.

I don't know if I'm supposed to post it here or not but I'm trying out the game and I have a problem.
I own a mbp with azerty keyboard (I live in belgium flemish part) but the ingame keyboard seems to be a qwerty.
is it possible to set this to a azerty?

thanks in advance,
Kristalghost
