Hacking US Iphone For UK use

I am going to America in a couple of days and am trying to find out if i brought a Iphone whilst out there would I be able to hack it to use on the UK network provider Vodafone. I heard that you could do this with the original phone, but with the new 1.1.2 patch coming pre-installed I was wondering if this was still possible. If so does anyone no how to do this?
