Hacking Without A Mac & 5400 RPM Drives

Hi All,

New to the forum, and AppleTV. However, I'm a former long-term apple advocate waiting for the new iMacs to get back onto the platform.

Is there a way to do any of these mods (RDP, codecs, etc) using a linux box instead of a Mac? I suppose I could use windows as well if that is easier.

Additionally, I just noticed that the drive is a 4200rpm drive. Is a 5400rpm western digital going to create too much heat for the little guy?

Reportedly, this is the (40GB) hard drive used in the Apple TV. If you can find complete specs on a 5400 RPM (replacement) drive that's in the same ballpark in terms of temperature, etc. you probably wouldn't have heat problems.

I replaced mine with the Samsung 160 gig 5400 and have had no problems with heat.

Any thoughts on where I might be able to find an intel sshd binary? The darwin site:

http://darwinsource.opendarwin.org/Roots/OpenSSH-56.root.tar.gz

returns a 0k file

none of my friends with macs have an intel-based one...
