I remember the days when Apple would regularly sic its lawyers on anyone who copied Mac ROMs on unauthorized clones. And for that matter, on Apple II clones before that.

I'll guess that if building, booting, and running an Intel Hackintosh ever became too easy, Apple's land sharks would make a return.

It is actually very easy, at least with compatible hardware. It was actually less work to install Snow Leopard on the PC then Windows XP when I tried it. Ok, one needs to have some knowledge about computers to do this, but the steps are very fast and easy (installed the SL via my MBP to the external drive, install the bootloader, put the drive into the PC - voila). Did not have to install any drivers either. There were some problems with sleep etc. which did took some DSDT hacking to resolve, but it worked fine as well.

Still, I like my new i7 iMac way better :)

Yeah this is the only site you need:

Pretty much any 1156 or 1366 socket motherboard and cpus work great.

That is all of the i3/i5/i7 desktop processors. :)

That's a great site. One day if I have the time, space, and money I wish I have the balls to build a custom mac pro hakintosh. djbattaglia if you can do it, or anyone else for that matter, you'd get massive props from me. If we had a rep system on MRF I'd definitely rep for the above link.

its links like this that reaffirm my decision to go loaded i7 imac over a single cpu MP....

unless there is a paradigm shift at apple, or perhaps a journey back into time a la MP 2008, if i ever want a modular tower, i am going to build one...
