So Apple does not need to keep your old part that they are replacing.

To the OP - Do you realise that those screws have the same thread as generic computer screws? I have literally over 100 just lying around in my spares box from all my old and scrapped computers.. You are crazy to spend any money with Apple just for 4 screws.

I'll order some screws then and stock up. The rubber grommet is a separate item.

Yes, the thread is the same but hopefully the screw head doesn't extrude too high and catch when sliding the carrier.

Mseth, hope the Apple store at Sherway can help you.

Seriously. I'm sure the OP will say I'm a mean person, but this whole thread is crazy. Not only that, in about 2 minutes, I found the info from an old thread right here:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/777132/

Even without that, anyone could just take down an existing screw - or the tray if you don't have any of the screws - to Home Depot or similar hardware store and find matching parts in a few minutes for a couple of $$.

I could see if this was for a MacBook and you didn't want to take it apart or needed the absolute perfect size and color screw, but I'd think MP owners are more electrically and mechanically inclined.

And, as has been already pointed out in this thread - and I'm sure hundreds of others - dealing with Apple service for anything out of warranty will be an overpriced nightmare. At least with an MP, most parts are replaceable by the owner. I would never own any of their recent glued-together iMacs or MacBooks without Applecare.

No problem, thanks to everyone for their info. btw, getting an "Error 404" on the above site you've mentioned so s dead link on the Hitachi screws. I'll try other places.

I would rather find the screws with the rubber grommets but at this point I'll just get extras without it and stock up on a few.

The average apple employee that answers the phone is not going to look up part numbers.

It's not their job, and it's not in their training. (I'm not saying I like this, but understand it and learn how to work with it).

Make the genius bar appointment. Take in your HDD carrier and your serial number. Ask them if you can buy extra screws. They are technicians, not mindless drones. They can diagnose 'customer lost some screws' without seeing your Mac Pro.
But their options may be limited. They can't open a service request for parts without a serial number. That hdd screws may not be something that's in their system to order (but the carrier with screws probably is).

From the previous posters, it sounds like it is a $55 part for a new carrier with screws. An out of warranty repair is cheaper than a replacement, so I'm guessing that's why he was charged $18 and had to give his old sled.

Also... THEY ARE STANDARD HARD DRIVE SCREWS!!!!! Yes, the head isn't rounded and they include rubber washers, but they're not magic.
