Windows was acting up, so I tried to do a re-install. Put my XP2 disk in, booted from it, deleted the old partition and made a new one, got through the portion where it copied the files fine, when it restart, I got an error about a missing file, "Hal.dll" I think it was. Tried again from scratch, same thing. Booted back into OS X, wiped out the old windows partition, made a new one, and clicked start install. It booted me back into the windows installer, picked the partition the boot camp manager made, now, when its done copying files, and restarts, I get a message that just says "disk error", and the computer freezes. Anyone have any ideas whats wrong?

I'm having a similar problem.
I had bootcamp with WinXP working perfectly on my Mac Pro. I loved it. But I had a feeling that it was causing some problems on the OSX side, so I deleted the partition and now I'm ready to re-install.
The newest version of Boot Camp Assist is installed and I have the new drivers. I'm using the exact same WinXP install disc.
The problem:
The WinXP install freezes every single time at the exact same point. After the installer has loaded up all the drivers, the screen says something like "Preparing to Install Windows" (I don't have the exact thing written down, but that's close) and then it just stays there. Nothing else happens.
I then tried installing WinXP through a trial version of Parallels, and it got going with no problems, so I know the disc isn't damaged.
Anyone else have this problem, or heard of a solution? Thanks.

The way I got it working was to use disk utility to completely wipe both partitions from the HD, format it to OS X Extended, and then use boot camp again to make the windows partition. If you have XP installed on the same HD as OS X, this obviously isn't an option for you, so I'm not sure what you could do.
Last night, I gave up and shut down my computer, forgetting that I left the WinXP install disc in the drive. When I turned on my computer this morning, the installer booted up and I decided to let it continue to see if it would work.
It did. WinXP installed with no problems this time. The only reason that I could think of was that the computer had time to cool down completely. Maybe the WinXP installer saw the computer was running hot and stopped the install from happening.
So if other Mac Pro users are having this problem, try letting your computer cool down for an hour or two or over night and try it again. Worked fine for me.

The only thing I can think of is that you should not have deleted the partition using the XP installer. I'm not sure how big of a difference it would have made, but to me I'd be really hesitant to trust the XP installer with an Apple computer... I've only experienced Boot Camp 3rd handedly so I can't give much advice beyond that.
I am having the same problem. I deleted my partition because I needed to change the size of the windows partition. Now I cannot reinstall Windows. The installer will either freeze or mention a dll error.
