Absolutely sucks, my lcd screen developed a hairline crack in a 5 minute walk between classes today. Could have been my books, but i do have a soft sleeve.

I know that warranty doesn't usually replace LCD screens, because most of them are user-abuse, but should I try anyway?

Or should I (newbie, but with surgeon's hands) do a self replace on an screen bought off ebay?

Or should I just suck it up and get it fixed by somebody else.

can't offer anything with your do-it yourself questions - but sorry to hear this

Are you sure it isn't a fault? I thought the MB was more robust than that? Or are you sure your heavy duty books were providing some movement and force towards it? Seems very unlucky.

It's fixable though, think I just read on another thread somewhere between US$350.00 to $400.00 would cover a professional refit and supply.

Nah just some case books, nothing hard. It could totally be a faulty LCD, but it could also have been the way I put my bag down: Apple seems not to give two hoots if they hear "crack" and "LCD". It's just kind of sad I can see 99% of the screen. My macbook is like a hot chick, who now has a scar on her face. Do you get plastic surgery, or do you live with it.

Check with Apple first, it may be a defect. Rare, but it does happen. My Palm's screen spontaneously crack (far more severe than you're talking about, it's unusable), and it was completely encased and in a very low pressure environment (i.e. nothing pushing against it at all). Of course, I haven't found out if they're going to replace it yet or not, my girlfriend has to do it through her work (she got it on a special deal and technically she's the only person supposed to be using it, but she got it for me).

So yeah, go to Apple and see what they say, then look into eBay or someone else. From what I've seen, I bet you could do it yourself if you've got talent/experience in that area.
