Hairline cracks in iPhone 3G white

Hi All,

I've had my 3G for about 14 months, in late spring / early summer I noticed that the casing had cracked around the headphone socked and also around the dock connector, both small cracks - but odd as it's normally in a new case.

I took it out again on Friday to discover that the dock crack had got a lot lot bigger, odd as again it's in a case and very well looked after.

I took it into the Apple store and the staff member immediately said "ahh another one" and booked an appointment.

So... Is this a common fault, and am I likely to get it fixed after 14 months? Any tips on what I should say?

Just a little worried it'll fall apart before my contract is up if it carries on like this!

There's a huge thread about iPhone cracks .

I had mine changed for this reason with one month left on my warranty but I don't know how they deal with out of warranty replacements.
