Hello.
First of all I live in Ireland and iPhones are ridiculously expensive here, and are also locked to O2. Since I come from Poland I asked someone there to buy a phone for me, as they are available unlocked from one operator.

Now I have the phone in Ireland, but after less than two days of very light use it developed a small, hairline crack in the screen. I have a photo here. As you can see it's not big, but it bothers me a lot. It's a brand new phone after all and things like this should just not happen for no reason whatsoever.

Now the problem is, I bought the phone in a different country (I have a warranty), and second, we don't have an official Apple Store in Ireland, only authorised resellers and service centres. So what should I do with the phone? It was not dropped, abused or mistreated in any way, the crack is hairline-like, not spiderweb-like, apart from that the phone looks perfect. Should I got to local reseller? Will they be able to help me, get me a replacement, unlocked phone? Or just replace the screen?

I really don't want to pay for this, the phone was expensive already and was supposed to be a present. Going back to Poland is rather problematic as well, I'd probably have to wait for a replacement phone there.

Anyway, that iPhone seems really fragile. I really hope it won't happen again... I also own MBP15" and have owned every generation of iPod Nano (not to mention a dozen or so Nokia phones...). Never had problems with any of them as I take good care of my things.

You'll probably have to mail it in to a service center for the country you bought it from.

I see some scratches on the right side of your chrome bezel. Without seeing it in person I cannot tell if it has been dropped or not dropped

That crack is pretty weird though, doesn't look like a drop... It looks more like you pressed on the glass too hard

or it really is a defect :/

keep us posted on this

im sorry to hear/see that. i would just call up apple care and give them a try; they usually replace everything. the plus side is that you get to keep your phone until you receive their new replacement iphone, then you ship yours back.

i also have a question for you: what kind of camera did you take that picture from? that looks pro.

Those are not scratches, just fingerprints. I noticed it as well after I took the picture. It was definatelly not dropped.

It's canon 450d with 50mm 1.4 lens, I don't have any macro lens at the moment. Not perfect but it'll do.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep you posted.

Put a screen protector on it, that may help it fade a lot. I had scratches on my 2g glass..... Body guardz applied and no more scratch could be seen.
