Half Life 2 Key

If I bought the retail PC version of Half Life 2 years ago, can I still use the CD key to download and play the game off of Steam?

So you never played it? Because from Day 1 you had to register with Steam to play ... but assuming you never did, you can certainly activate your game now ... and the really cool thing is you'll never need to touch those 5 CD's again!
 
Yes I definitely registered with Steam and played it on my old PC. It even had a version of Counterstrike that came with it now that I think about it!

The question is now, what the hell was my account and the email that was linked to it. Hopefully this won't be a problem

I believe you can retrieve your account with the cd-key somehow..

I did yesterday :D

I told them the whole story and took about 5 pics of the retail box and its contents with a nice fat shot of the CD key. We'll see what happens
 
You took pics of the box and CD key?!?!?!

OMG!!! You took pics of the box and sent it them!!! Your going to have the cops bust your door down and have pc / mac confiscated!!:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p
 
hahah they asked me to do it to verify my purchase, and they reset my password for me and let me know what my original login was!

Valve rocks, now my old games show up and my old stats too :) My old account is alive again
 
Hmm I am in the same situation. I have HL2 box edition and when I went to setup steam for my Mac, I can't remember my username or p/w...

Good to hear. I have always heard good things about getting situations resolved from Valve with Steam. I have also had good personal experience. Glad to hear it worked out!
 
I guess I was lucky, It only took me about 5 tries to get my login correct. I too had steam back when I purchased Half Life 2 for my old PC. Now, if they would just let us play it on our Macs....

Hopefuly that will come about in the next couple of weeks.
