Hi guys.

Forgive my ignorance but gaming on macs is new to me

I've got half life 2 for pc but can I get it to work on my 2011 mbp??

I have windows through boot camp aswell but I would prefer to run it on mac os if possibly

Opinions and suggestions please guys

Thanks

Have you tried contacting Steam for support?

Orange box would get registered to your steam account, and that should allow the Mac Half Life 2 to download. You probablly need to get the process started in Bootcamp or vmware etc.

All Valve games are registered through Steam as far as I know and what you have registered on your Steam account can be re-downloaded on any computer (including Mac).

And all Source engine games run fine on Mac without bootcamp. HL2, Portal, Counter Strike, etc.

I've never even opened the box so it's not registered, but I'm not sure I can install from the disk to my mac or how it works

Make sure you have steam installed on both OS first...

Its no big deal. Install your game via bootcamp first. You can register it through valve/steam, etc.

Then once you log back on to your mac side, load up steam and you should be able to install it on OSX via steam server.

You then should be good to go!

why have him go through the trouble of doing all that when he doesnt even need to use bootcamp. he only needs to have stam installed on whichever os he wants to use it on. all of the orange box games work on OSX

Thanks for he help guys, just one other question

Is the performance alot better running on windows??

If it is should I just install it on my bootcamp windows partition?? It would be easier but I do prefer osx

its supposed to be but ive played half life 2 on both OSX and windows with bootcamp and havent really noticed too much of a difference

Yeah, just download Steam for OS X, input the code and you'll have all your games. You will get a few more FPS under Windows, but depending on your specs, those FPS might make absolutely no difference. And plus I don't think it's worth rebooting every time you want to play just for a bit better performance.

Success!!

I just downloaded steam for Osx then registered the orange box and downloaded my games for osx

The performance even on the highest settings is smooth as silk on my 2011 2.2 mbp while running on osx so I'll keep to osx

Cheers for your help and advice guys

been playing Half life 2 today on steam on my shiny new 27"imac. :)

I really wish there was more stuff on the mac steam store,i've got a ton of windows games but only 2 or 3 show up on mac steam.:(
I can get Bioshock, chronicles of riddick etc on the App store but not steam..
