Aren't all of Valve's Half Life games available on a Mac (native) without needing Bootcamp/Windows? I know Half Life 1 and 2 are. I'd assume this new Half Life game would too.

Based on the name, what is this game about? Is it a remake of the original?

Half Life 1 isn't available on the Mac in its original form or in the Source version Valve released.

Black Mesa Source isn't a game released by Valve.
It is a remake of the original game with upgraded graphics in the source engine. It is up to the developers of this game if they want to release a Mac version of it

I'll believe it once it's on my hard drive and at the start screen. Then I'll be very excited.

-edit-
It's not complete? At least something's getting released though :)

Half Life: Source is the one compatible with MAC.

Black Mesa isn't made by valve, and is a free game made by a team of 40 volunteers. I would assume porting it to Mac from windows would just delay the game further.

I hope it's good, I started replaying HL1 around a year ago and stopped after hearing about this mod.
Cant wait :)

There are no versions of Half-Life 1 (source-engined or otherwise) available for the Mac from Steam. It seems like I've been waiting forever and I'd know if a version had become available.

I don't think the orginal version is around for MAC.

Half Life: Source, is for Mac. Which is just the first game polished with the source engine.

My mistake. The original Half Life and Half Life Source are listed as PC only. I could have sworn Valve, at one point saying they were going to bring all of their titles to Mac.

I just checked Mac compatible Half Life titles available under Steam. Here is what I found:
Half Life2 Demo
Half Life2
Half Life2 Episode 1
Half Life2 Episode 2
Half Life 2 Deathmatch

This is amazing. The Halflife 2 series is one of my favourites. I've been checking the Mesa website on and off for a year or so and was pretty much convinced BM was dead given there never was any update of significance. All the same, I've held off playing the original Halflife - from the screenshots the graphics looked pretty rubbish. Since most gamers will already have played the original HL, I feel pretty privileged in getting to play it as the improved version AND it being entirely a fresh experience for me.

Too bad no Mac version in sight yet - probably not a good idea to hold out for that! I guess the rough timeline for that would be: another 3 years for the rest of Halflife to come out, another 3 years for the Mac version... Bootcamp it is.

I would recommend playing the original Half Life, yes it was not the first FPS, but it really was genesis, Half Life, and the Half Life series in general, is the benchmark by which most are other FPS games are judged. Its gameplay, style, storyline, immersion, and general fun are un matched.

Graphics don't mean anything, if you can find a copy of the original, or get it off steam. Play it.

Actually, they are limited to what the Source engine tools will release, and as it stands, no third-party Source games run on OS X. This is Valve's issue that they haven't addressed yet.

By harnessing the powerful, arcane magicks of...uh...looking stuff up on Google, I found this entry on the Black Mesa FAQ.

To quote:

Will Black Mesa be ported to Xbox360, Mac or another platform?

At the moment Black Mesa supports only PCs powered by Microsoft Windows operational system [5]. In the near future it will be also available for Mac, and possibly, Linux [6]. No port for Xbox360.

So, it'll be available for the Mac in the near future. Considering these people run on Valve Time, I expect you'll all be playing it natively by 2015 or so.

Ando also Steam is bugged as hell on OS X 10.8.x! I'm loosing faith in Valve.... i suggest all to mac gamers to give feedback to Valve about quality of Steam for OS X and MODs...

Hm so far not so good. Countdown has just stopped and it's gone into "403 forbidden"...
