Hello all.
I searched for this topic, and didn't see anything that pertained to my question, so if this is a duplicate entry go easy on me.
I've done a ton of work in Handbrake on my old G4 graphite PowerMac. At 733MHz, however, I have a harder time continuing to use it for ripping my DVD library when I have a 3GHz XP machine sitting right next to the G4.
Sooo, I download the latest Handbrake for Windows, along with DVD43, and get to work.
Times, they are a-changin'!
Handbrake is now filled with buttons, widgets, knobs, dials, and dialogs that I don't recognize. (yes, I'm exaggerating, but it is indeed more complicated than the Mac version) After a considerable amount of trial & error (which at 4 hours per rip iteration is maddening) I'm able to get a file that somewhat resembles those created by my G4.
To achieve this, I use a slightly modified version of the "normal" profile running x264, AAC, and the output set to "mp4". Here's the rub.. regardless of my settings, Handbrake *always* creates an "m4v" file, which my PC hates to play. (maybe it'll play great whenever I finally buy an AppleTV, but for now I'm hosed)
If I change the file extension from m4v to mp4, all is well. However, I'm curious if there's a reason for this, if anyone else has noticed it/cares, or if I'm doing something silly.
Thanks.
