I've seen there is a preset for apple tv 2 n handbrake and i've used it a couple of times but it reduces the file converted file is smaller than the original.

I assume I'm losing something, qualty, bitrate etc.
Am i?

Can I convert a file so that it's the exact same quality as the original, just in an apple compatible format?

Thanks

Select the Apple TV 2 Preset, adjust the quality slider. 20 should give you very good results if your still not happy slide it to 18.

Encoding a video you are going to lose quality, thats just life. Though The Apple TV 2 preset should give quality difficult t tell from the original.

I find the ATV 2 setting with the RF slider to 19 results in quality very close to the original file.

To tell the truth I can not tell any difference.
