Hello all!

I tried searching the forums here and didn't find an answer to my question.

I am trying to convert MKV files that are 1080p (1920x1080) into .MP4 to be used on my Apple TV 2.

I have a 1080p 54" Panasonic TV.

I have been using the ATV2 setting and noticed that it changes the output size to: 1280x720

Picture quality is excellent but was wondering if it was worth using the High Profile setting as it keeps the output to 1920x1080

Would I notice a difference? Would it just take longer to encode?

Any pointing into a direction would be appreciated.

Handbrake Curiousity - Part 2!

So sorry!

Forgot to mention this:

What audio setting is the best to use? I have a 5.1 Audio Setup.

Should I set audio to AC3 (6 channel discrete or ???????)

Does it matter if AC3 is selected first on the list? Usually when I flip to the Audio tab it has the AAC (Core Audio) Dolby Pro Logic II listed first and then second is the AC3 tab.

I keep switching their order for some reason.

Would it matter?

Thanks!

Wait for it ...

iOS 5 I mean. Rumormongers expect 1080x content on Apple TV 2 with iOS 5.

Got a spare Mac hanging around? Attach it to the TV, far more you can do with it and outputs to the full resolution of your TV. Don't have a spare Mac? Find someone with a somewhat recent MacBook that has a cracked display, you could probably pick it up for a song. Stick it in your AV center and control it via bluetooth mouse and keyboard.

ATV2 can't do 1080p, so it's not really worth it.

ATV2 can actually "do" 1080p in that it can play back 1080p material (at sufficiently low bitrates--mine tends to choke on full-size BDs repackaged from mkv to m4v). It cannot currently display or output 1080p, though. If you have the storage space I would do your conversions maintaining the 1080p; who knows when Apple will put out a new ATV or perhaps even an update for the ATV2 that would allow it to output 1080p (wishful thinking?).
