Handbrake Encoding Question

I'm using Handbrake to encode several TV series. I am using the universal Apple preset in Handbrake but every time it creates a file it shows up as a Movie instead of a TV Show in iTunes.

Is there anyway to specify which type the file encodes as in Handbrake? I've looked around and didn't see that setting in there, but I wanted to check to see if I was just overlooking it.

No, you specify what kind of file it is during the tagging process. Use a program like MetaX or Subler to tag the file as either a TV Show or Movie. You can also do this in iTunes by selecting the file and pressing Get Info then going to the options tab and changing the Media Kind field.

This is correct but I'll echo the sentiments expressed in another recent tagging thread and advice you to stay far away from MetaX--source of way too many tagging nightmares. MetaX was a great option a few years back but it has mo developer support any longer (at least the Mac version) and there are far better options available now--try iDentify2, iFlicks, or even Subler. I personally recommend iDentify2, especially for tagging TV shows as it'll tag entire seasons in a minute or two.

By the way, when you change the media kind from Movie to TV Show in iTunes, iTunes doesn't write it to the file itself, just stores it in its own database. If you ever remove it from your library and re-add it later, they'll all go back to the Movies section.

An app like Subler writes the metadata to the actual file, so if you ever remove it and re-import it, it'll always go straight to TV Shows instead of Movies. I learned this the hard way.
