Handbrake Question

I noticed most H.264 have an extension of .MOV. When I use handbrake it gives me only the option for .AVI and .MP4. What's output should I do if I want to enventually output on TV, ipod, etc.
 
.MOV is a container format like .AVI. It does not necesarily indicate the compression algo being used.
