I just got done ripping my movie collection via Handbrake using a slightly tweaked AppleTV preset (RF:19, Framerate 29.97 and Peak Framerate (VFR) was checked). That was an awesome setting for my legit movies and all look awesome on a 62" DLP TV. Now I am in the process of working on my concert DVD's which are non professional and don't use the best equipment per say, etc. I tried keeping the same RF setting of 19, but the file sizes were getting insane and so I tweaked it down to RF 23 and now the file sizes are considerably smaller and I am trying to notice differences but unable too (between RF 19 and RF 23). I just ripped the same concert DVD twice (for those interested Michael Jackson - 1987-09-26 The Bad Tour) anyways one was RF 19 and one was RF 23. I looked at them on a 37" LCD in our house and was unable to notice any differences in quality, just the size went from 3gb (RF 23) to 1.6 (RF 19). The bitrate was 2200 vs 4400.

Anyone out there ripping home made movies (which essentially is what these are), what RF setting would you use? I am trying to find the sweet spot where the file sizes are small and quality is good...and I am guessing this is going to be on me and whatever looks good to me, but if anyone has similar experience doing what I am doing I would love some feedback. Thanks!

Let me go on to say that some concert rips it does have really low bitrates of 900kbps and others at 2200 or higher. I guess I just do not understand the RF setting as I have never used it before, would always use average bitrate. If anyone has any tips/tricks/advice please let me know as I have over 300 DVD's of Concerts to rip and would prefer to not do them twice. :)
