Handbrake'd WS movies on Apple TV

So I used Handbrake to copy a WS movie onto my computer and then transferred to Itunes to play thru my ATV ... when I play on my WS TV it is playing w/ the letterbox ... I'm using the ATV setting on Handbrake ... if I use a full screen movie it looks fine but everytime I Handbrake a WS movie I get the letterbox. Any suggestions?

Is it a 16:9 movie, or one with an even wider aspect ratio? Only 16:9 movies will fill your screen - ones shot in 1.85:1 or 2.35:1 will still show letterbox bars.

Are you using auto-crop in Handbrake? What do you see when you go into the video preview window? Is it cropping out the bars then but just not in the final encode? Is this with all 16:9 movies, or just a certain one?

Yes - if I don't use autocrop and try to resize it just shows a letterbox preview and moves the picture up/down or left/right but still shows the letterbox
