also what HB settings do i use for apple tv. all i see is large file, web file and ipod touch 5th gen

Update your presets.

The high profile option works fine.

There is a tab for subtitles. You can attach them there.

Once the movie starts playing hold down the play button and turn subtitles on.

The Apple TV 2 subtitles are busted they don't work. (well done Apple) Hurry up with a freaking fix.

Just a word of caution, with .SRT subtitles I found a bug in the Apple TV that causes a subtitle to stick on the screen if the timings are off. I believe it happens in iTunes, too, but VLC handles it gracefully.

Basically, if the end time for your subtitle display is before the start time (as was the case in some very sloppily edited .SRT files I downloaded) then that subtitle will freeze on the screen for the rest of the movie. Even if you try to fast-forward past it.

Always use an SRT editor like Jubler folks!

Oh, and .SRT subtitles are effing illegible on the Apple TV, too, seriously... did they not notice that in testing!? Smallest. Font. Ever.

You can also permanently turn on subtitles in the Audio settings, by changing the subtitle language from Off to English.

mp4 and mov use durations, not timestamps, each frame has got a duration, so they can't overlap in any possible way.

It could be an HandBrake bug.

Btw, can you post a photo of subtitles on the new atv? I still can't buy one in my country.
