handoff won't show up on the iMac

so i have an iMac 5k and handoff was working on the iMac on el capitan for a min then all of a sudden it just stopped working i was using my iPhone 6s plus on safari when i noticed all of a sudden that it didn't pop up on iMac nor dose mail everything is connected and updated as well anyone else have this issue and know how to get this resolved thanks in advance.

Bluetooth on on both devices? Both devices connected to the same wifi network? Is handoff still turned on in system preferences > general (try switch it off then on).

it actually started working late last night by itself and now i just updated to the latest software el capitan software that was released today and it works fine now... it was weird how it just stopped working but glad it back.
