Handoff working 1 way only

I have late 2012 macbook pro and iphone 6+, both upgraded to latest OS.

-same wifi, bluetoothon
-same icloud account

handoff is only working 1 way from mac to iphone, when i open any safari tab on mac, it shows up on iphone, but not vice-versa.

can you guys help me on how to fix this? thanks in advance.

Same issue with my 2012 13" rMBP and iPad 4. I can see my MBP stuff on my iPad but I can't see my iPad stuff on my MBP.

I thought this was supposed to come with iOS 8 and not 8.1?
