I received my new 120gb macbook yesterday, and after transferring all settings, applications and data onto my macbook from my ibook i have noticed that in finder, it says that 38.92GB is available in applications, but for Desktop, Documents, Movies, Pictures and Music only 2.6GB is available. Surely it should be 38.92Gb like Applications. Macintosh HD also says that 38.92Gb is available.

I don't know whether this problem is from transferring data from my iBook as i only had around 2gb on it. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to solve it because currently it means that i cannot store much more music, videos, photos and documents but have plenty of hard drive space for applications.

Thanks in advance!

Have you got any parental controls enabled? You can check in the Accounts pane of System Preferences. This only applies if the account is not an admin account. :)

No i havnt, i managed to sort the problem now by reinstalling the mac OSX then putting back all my documents. It took a while but atleast it worked, there was probably an easier solution but oh well.
