Hi folks! I have an old early 2009 iMac that I have successfully used as a home server for a couple of years and wish to continue to use it for more years to come. Unfortunately the hard disk failed just a week ago and I'm now in the market for a new 3.5 drive. (This is my second disk failure, I know I'm unlucky but thank goodness for backups)

I'm not taking my chances now and going for "server grade" disk. Will WD Red or Gold drives work on this iMac? Anyone here have some experience with these drives? If not can anyone recommend a reliable 3.5 that will work reliably for the iMac. TIA!

Posting this to help others who have similar intentions. Took me a while to find actual info because I did not start with the most obvious source first....

OCW has compatibility charts for their disk drive products: (click compatibility tab)

(According to the chart the WD 6tb Red is compatible with my early 2009 iMac)
