Hard drive activity

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a new 27" i7 iMac to replace an older iMac from a few years ago. It's working beautifully but I have one issue. I have done an install of Windows 7 Pro 64bit edition and for some reason when I boot it up I'll be sat at the desktop with nothing running and all I can hear is the hard drive making loads of noise. The type of noise it would make if I were opening a large program or something. I've checked the activity monitor for background processes but only the essentials are running. Have I got a bad drive?

Delete Windows and re install OSX. Then dont use Windows. Problem goes.

When you boot up in Windows or Mac OS X?

If in OS X, check to see if Spotlight is indexing your hard drive, which could account for extended hard drive activity.

You can determine if it's indexing by the Menu Bar icon:

Spotlight isn't indexing the drive. I was on about problems whilst using Windows 7 anyway. I have also now experienced new problems.

I just booted into OSX from the computer being shut down for a few hours. I opened iTunes and it kept freezing for the first 2 minutes the app was open for about 20 seconds at a time. The same thing happened when I ran Safari to come post here. I don't have any apps that start up on boot so I don't know what the problem is.
