I have an older Mac Pro 2 X 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with my boot HD a 500 GB SATA and 2 extra 1 TB drives. One of the 1 TB data drives is reporting a mechanical failure. I tried to fix it using Disk Warrior and it couldn't. Disk utility is telling me to back up as much as I can, reformat the disk and restore my files. The Drive is not showing up on my desk top but is seen by the two utilities.

I think i should send this disk out to have the files recovered. Does anyone have a good company they can refer me to and what should I expect to pay for this type of service? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Kroll Ontrack is a good one.

Hard way to learn the importance of keeping backups, but it is highly recommended you get a second drive in the system for this purpose. ;)

Yep it gets price but its worth it if your hard drive holds pricelles moments!

You can try Stellar Phoenix Mac if your drive is not recognised as the software is able to recover data from an unmounted drive. This will work good for you as your drive is unmountable. The will fix your issue and recover your data. Cheers !

Most mechanical problems are caused by a faulty controller on the HDD logic board. If you feel like you're up to it you could look for a board replacement for your HDD model, most likely a lot cheaper than paying $$$ for recovery services. It might help.

Or cause further damage, depending on one's competency.
