My hard drive keeps going to sleep when inactive for a few minutes and then wakes again a few seconds later, even though the "put hard drives to sleep" setting is UNCHECKED in the energy saver panel.

I keep hearing a "clicking" sound (like when you put the mac pro to sleep), and then a few seconds later I hear the disk start up again.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Reset the SMC...

There is a button on the logic board:

Press the SMC_RST switch, which is located to the right and slightly below the row of diagnostic LEDs. (See the LED diagram in the following “Diagnostic LEDs” section.)


Or unplug your Mac Pro for 15 seconds.

You're making too much racket! Can't you see? The HD wants to sleep. Shhh. :D ;)
