Hard Drive Question

I've got an iMac 22" desktop that I purchased last year (August 2010) and was wondering about the hard drive. The box states it came with a 500gb hd. However, when I check Home (the name I gave it) Information it states "capacity: 999.53 GB" and available "110.3 GB" which means 889.23 gb on disk. I'm confused, can someone please explain this to me?

When I click on About This Mac, Get more information and under Serial-ATA it has this:

go into the system profiler (apple logo in upper left corner, about this mac, more info) and then click on the Serial ATA section on the left hand side. This will show you the exact model # of your hdd. Google the part# and it will let you know exactly what you have. It may be a corrupt partition or more than likely a glitch. If everything works ignore it. If you can't sleep at night because of it do a system restore and see if it's still there then restore from backup.
