I currently have the mac book pro and when i try and see how much space is available on my hard drive (pressing apple i) it says the wrong amount. it says i've used 70 GB when i know for a fact that i've only used 23 GB.

i've backed everything up just in case but is there a way to solve this problem?

Mac OS X can make a lot of invisible files. Restart or shut down and they all get erased. Could be part of your problem if you don't shut it down all the time.

If not that, yes, back up and call Applecare.
