Hi

I have an ibook g4, my hard drive is corrupted so i need to buy a new one, has anyone got any suggestions where i can get a cheap 60gb replacement?

Also if i wanted to upgrade my hard drive would i need to reconfigure my computer to accept it or would this be automatic.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Nope. Just install and format.

How about a 10,000 rpm boot drive with a 200gb HD? Nice setup.

How do you plan on getting that into an iBook? ;)

Newegg definitely has the best prices, but if it breaks I've heard mixed reports about the customer service.

I've built numerous PC's using parts from there, and so far every time I've had to RMA something they've been great about it, and really quick. The only problem I've ever had was when I bought something that newegg said only the manufacturer would warranty. I had to find them to get an RMA, and that was a royal pain. Newegg's been good to me, though.

for a laptop, I'd say 5400RPM w/ 16MB buffer if you can, 7200RPMs are just too loud and hot for me, and unless you are doing very intensive tasks, which I'm assuming you arent since you have an iBook not powerbook, a 5400RPM drive should be fine

newegg and macsales are both great, bought stuff from both, check prices at both places, usually newegg is the cheapest, their shipping is cheap, and they are great to deal with. but for lots of stuff macsales is just easier to find stuff

i have a western digital...

the 60gb 4200rpm hd in my 1.33ghz 12" powerbook failed last summer. replaced it with western digital 80gb 5400rpm (WD800VE) and found it amazingly more quiet, faster, and more power efficient. now i actually get some decent battery life (went from 2-2.5hrs to a consistent 3.5hrs).

I agree... super quiet.

No kidding. Seagate Momentus 120Gb 5,400 rpm here. It's very quiet, like hard drives should be.

eBay. You can get factory sealed drives for considerably cheaper than any other online retailer.
