Hard drive replacement question

I´m in the market for a laptop with 7200rpm hard drive (video capturing and editing) and I´m wondering if it is likely to buy the Macbook (not pro) and replace the hard drive myself?

I know this is possible with most if not all PC laptops, so I guess this is also possible with Macs?

I would contact Applecare to receive an answer to this question. When I purchased Applecare for my powerbook one year after the date of purchase, I asked this question because I wanted to have the option of upgrading my hard drive at a later date without any warranty implications and was told by an Applecare rep that the warranty would remain intact with a few exceptions:

1. Damage a result of improperly replacing the drive myself would not be covered

2. Applecare would not cover the replacement drive in the event of a failure.

Many people (PC owners that I know of) have put the original drive in the computer if it broke down and then sent it in for a repair under warranty. I don´t think that is illegal or if Apple has anything against it.
