Hello!

I have too much stuff... on my Various hard drives....

.... a 60 gig itunes library... 40 gigs of movies (i haven't yet watched) ... 40 gigs of photos... 250 gigs of architecture grad school... etc etc etc etc...!

i have a pc desktop with a full 140 gig hd, a macbook pro with a full 100 gig hd, an external hd i use to back up the important macbook and arch. stuff, and an external 80 gig mini hd that i just extracted from a dead ibook...! every night i get some work done i end up with half a gig more data i need to store...

how the hell do i organize and consolidate all this bloody hard drive demand?

how do you guys do it???

thanks,

r.

I bought 2 400GB drives and a SATA card. I'm now in the process of selling my old hard drives to recover some of the costs. I'm about $100 in the hole.

Sounds like you need one of these:

plus 4 750GB drives. Sorted.

I converted all my movies to mp4 using Handbrake. That gave me another 200gig.

As well as bigger harddisks, also invest in some form of backup storage for stuff you don't need every day (dual layer dvd should go some way).

Shh... I don't want to say this too loudly, but you need to calmly walk out, buy some backup media - drives, or whatever, and make copies of your data, quickly. Never know when a drive will all the sudden shoot out. So calmly walk away from your Mac and get some medium. BTW Lacie has a 1TB External drive I think, get that.

I have hard drive hell right now with my firewire and USB 2.0 drive enclosures with drives ranging from 80 to 500 GB. I keep smaller files like MS Office type stuff and PDFs on the smaller drives, and for medium drives I keep my photos and music and program installs. The big drives are reserved for my Quicktime files and iMovie projects that I want to keep. Spotlight can scan the quicktime only drives quickly since there aren't that many files and the meta data count is low.

I try to keep my MBP to only the programs I really need and never store data on it.

one problem that i have seems to be that my main work desktop machine is a windows computer, complete with fat 32....

and so i, for some reason, backup the hd on a fat 32 partition on an external...

... though i like to have my mac machines use the mac format...

i use macdrive, but it seems to have limitations. it crashes when manipulating files on the macdrived hd from the pc... it crashes when trying to open files from the macdrived hd... it feels only elementary...
