Hard drive upgrade for 12" PBook?

I would like to replace the stock 80GB hard drive in my 12" PowerBook with something bigger. OWC sells notebook drives up to 120 and even 160GB. Is there any potential downside to this type of upgrade? (E.g., reduced battery life if I go for a 7200rpm drive?)

Also - is the installation process too complex for the average layperson? I am reasonably tech savvy, but after looking at the installation guide on iFixit.com, I'm feeling a bit trepidated.

Would love to hear from anyone who's dealt with this sort of thing before. Thanks in advance for any tips.....

Admittedly, it's not the easiest thing to do. What you see on iFixit is probably a slightly over-complicated perspective but it's honest nonetheless. If you're intimidated by the guides, then don't try this yourself.

A faster drive will have almost no effect on the battery life of your machine. Any difference will be negligible.

I did an upgrade on an iBook which takes a while and I had no issues after doing it. There were some moments where I thought I might have done something but in reality I was being over cautious.

Upgrading the 12"PB looks easier and I'm quite willing to do the upgrade on mine when I fine its time to do so. If I were you, get the 7200 rpm model. I would try to get the machine to be as fast as possible so it lasts longer in both its battery life and longevity. Extra capacity doesn't mean much to me, its speed speed speed.

I would wait until they release a 160GB 7200rpm model personally so you will benefit both ways. Its more impressive as well in such a small machine.
