Hi i have just downgraded from El Capitan back to Yosemite with the help of the Apple team as i could not retrieve any of my Apple Mail whilst being on El Capitan. I had no problems before that on Yosemite. I have updated and backed up all my data on a Buffalo external hard drive each week and before each call to Apple which has always worked but for some reason, when the specialist in Apple tried to help me bring back all my data after the downgrade back to Yosemite the ex hd or Time Machine has wiped the past 2 years off my drives. I am so upset because i need to retrieve this data. I have everything up to 2013 then nothing from then until November 2015. I could always retrieve the data on any up grade but once i backed up El Capitan before reverting back to Yosemite, somewhere along the way, i have lost 2 years of data. Does anyone know how to help me. I have tried to retrieve this data using Stellar Phoenix Data recovery and Disk Drill but to no avail. I am now in the process of downloading Cistem Data Recovey as well. Does anyone know why and what has happened? No one at Apple knows or can explain to me if it is Time machine and or the ex hd.

When you look in the actual Time Machine backup folder on the external you don't see folders from previous months?
Hi Brian, Yes that is correct. Nothing but an empty Time Machine before 25/11/2015 but from that date onwards it is updating. Also i have a MacPro Version 10.10.5

[doublepost=1452307164][/doublepost]Hi rocknrotty,
I have downloaded the Data Rescue 4 and i only let me retrieve about 8 files i see thousands of files and have clicked on the ones that i think might be the ones I'm looking for but when i go to press Retrieve it stays greyed out. Did you have the same problems and if yes do you know how to fix this problem. The retrievable files i have checked only add up to less than 600mbs :(

What happens if you "enter time machine", it also shows nothing?
Hi that's right it shows nothing in between February 2014 to 25/11/2015 whatever has happened it's wiped nearly 2 years worth of backed up data

That is odd, as it's a progressive update that it does. I would suspect time machine has not been running for that time.

I only ever use time machine as manual back ups, that way I know for sure that it's been done, and then out the drive away somewhere safe. I also do a manual file copy as backup to avoid the situation you are in. Never trust backups.
