Harddrive formatting and partitioning issues

A friend of mine has a problem with their MacBook Pro.

Apparently they tried to partition the drive so they could triple boot and the copied a Unix command off a website and now they have lost a chunk of HD space. They don't know what site they got the instructions from but with my limited knowledge of Unix it looks like they have done a damn good job with the partitioning bit, but there is no way of using it!

Does anyone have any idea as to how I can get the HD space back? I have attached a screen shot from their Disk Utility...

You can select the HDD (the 74.5 GB one) and click Erase. It would erase everything and make it only one partition. Then you can install OS X with your DVDs again.

This is the only was I know of making this. But maybe there is some-other way I don't know about.

The best way to fix this is to get a disk cloning app like CCC or SuperDuper and clone the Mac partition to an external drive. Once you have tested that the backup is truly bootable, then partition the system drive and clone back. It's easy and safe.

As already said, reinstalling OSX will fix the problem.

But first, you'll need to boot off the OSX CD and select Disk Utility so you can erase both partitions and start fresh.

Reinstalling is definitely NOT the best solution. There is no need to be so destructive. Cloning and repartitioning is an easy option.

Meant tae say Archive and Install instead but oh well.

Cloning is also a possibility.
