Hey guys,
I have an iMac 7,1
My harddrive has started slowing down and grumbling (thats the noise it makes). Quick question.. How long till it fails?
Thanx boys

How can you tell it's slowing down?

Grumbling is a normal noise for any hard drive to make, so I wouldn't bank in grumbling noise alone to be the culprit of a dying hard drive.

I dont remember my iMac being this slow, nothing really runs at startup except Sophos. I'll blame Sophos

Usually grumbly harddrives are an indication of an aging harddrive

hard to tell, but if its grumbling, grinding, or clicking...and its a new sound...I would make a full backup and then keep whatever you are working with backed up every few days.

I wouldnt backup the whole thing every few days...I did that once, and the hard drive phyiscally failed during backup. That was a bad day.
