(Hardly) Automatic App Updates

When do apps update automatically? Often times I will wake up in the morning, check for app updates, and there will be a ton of them. Why aren't they updating automatically overnight while my phone is charging and locked (and on Wi-Fi)? What is the schedule for automatic updates (which of course is ON)?

I have mine set to auto update and it never has either. Same circumstances as you to.

Auto-Update Apps has NEVER worked for me. I turned that feature off and just made it a habit to manually check every day.
