Just making this post to document an issue that happened to me today, and if anyone else is experiencing the same issue. I have the new M1 2021 iPad Pro 11" + 5G on iPad OS 14.6
Right now suspecting hardware failure on the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / Back Camera / Face ID functions of the iPad.
The sequence of events:
My iPad finished charging, and I unplugged the cable. As I did, the iPad froze on the lockscreen and flashed a pink/purple-ish screen and shut down. I started it up again thinking there must be some sort of glitch and rebooting it should fix the issue.
Rebooted, and the iPad lock screen shows that "Unable to activate Face ID on this iPad". I unlocked it and tried to use Face ID again. "Not available".
Weird. I decided to go into the security settings and reset Face ID. But it still says "Face ID not available".
Then I also noticed that Wi-Fi is not enabled. I checked in settings to re-enable but the option was grey-ed out! Same with Bluetooth.
Feeling flustered, I decided to contact Apple Support for further clarification and ways to troubleshoot and fix. While doing so, I discovered even the back-camera is not working. We did a restore as well as an erase to see if both fixed the issue. Both times ended up in the Wi-Fi / Bluetooth / Back Camera / Face ID not working.
Suspects?
I am suspecting there was an issue of some sort when I disconnected the iPad from the charging cable + charger (Apple in-box). Either a short that caused specific components to fail or caused iPad OS to not recognize certain components inside.
Either way, this is something I wanted to leave documented on this forum so people are aware of this issue.
I am visiting the store soon to get it diagnosed properly and replaced if necessary.
