Any video editors or Photoshop users running into considerable lag when editing heavy files and maxing out the 16gb of RAM? I know more ram is better but that's not an option right now. I wonder what kinda real world hit anyone is experience right now with the M1. Particularity with Photoshop files with lots of layers. Especially Photoshop PSB files. And having the file located on a traditional external hard drive, not the internal SSD.

It would be really funny if nobody could give examples of them needing more than 16GB on these machines after all that whining about 16GB being the max.

Capture One Pro (~3GB) + Photoshop (~2GB at launch + 2GB more as I open more complex projects) + Safari running 6 tabs, each around 600MB = 10.6GB. Activity Monitor tells me it's using 14GB. I've hit 6GB swap, so there are clear signs memory use is exceeding 16GB.

Imagine I also have Parallels running with a Windows 10 VM that uses 4GB RAM. That'll totally exceed 16GB.

Now... even when swap was hit, the pauses in between were not as crazy as on the 13" Intel MacBook (2018) that I have. But there are clear signs that even without VMs in the picture, my use case needs 16GB. Someone who runs far more apps than I do will obviously want even more RAM, so 32GB is not that unreasonable for them.
