Has any one used Isopropyl 70% to clean their MacBook pro screen? Did it damage the coatings? My MacBook Pro arrived with some shiny marks along the edge of the gasket on both sides. I removed most with a soft cloth and some water it but there are a few stubborn Marks. Any other suggestions?

I use special display cleaning liquids and soft towels (microfiber). Not recommended to use by various chemicals and with/by brute force as it may damage the screen, its coating or something else. Just buy the screen cleaning package, they are cheap.

Apple recommends using 70% isopropyl. https://support.apple.com/en-us/103258
As chrfr said it’s OK to use the 70% alcohol. I’ve done it for a small spots and it didn’t cause any problems. Make sure you use a new long free cloth. I know Apple says a clean one but if it was my screen, I wouldn’t take a chance that there could be some gritty particle in there to scratch the screen. You can get microfiber cloths relatively cheap.

Also Apple states in that instruction “Avoid excessive wiping, which might cause damage.”. That means if you’re getting carried away, trying to get everything spot free and continuously doing this, step back. It is possible to damage the coating if you go overboard trying to keep it clean.

Clean the screen free of smudges, fingerprints, bits of food, grease every few days using Isopropyl alcohol. Been doing it for years, no damage to the screen. Soap may leave residue, soapy water doesn't work so well.

If it's a new bought MacBook, don't do anything, I would go back to the store and show them,
it should not have shiny parts on a new screen.
