Has anybody actually installed via a slipstreamed XP SP2 CD?

If you could post the link to the website's steps that you followed, and post which discs you slipstreamed with what, that would be great.

Can you slipstream the discs on a Mac that isn't running VPC?

I did it earlier today using these instructions:

Worked fine although my XP Pro SP 1 CD was from Compaq and so it made an 850 MB CD which I ended up burning to DVD. So the bootable DVD worked. XP SP 2 is "on the way" in the mail though so I shouldn't need it for long... just wanted to try it tonight!

I made a slipstream CD from an original XP Pro CD and the SP2 CD using Virtual PC for the Mac..
Made a disk image with Nero then burned the image with Toast..
Everything works fine.With the exception of what Apple said..iSight etc..
Graphics are full 3D acceleration.

He has instructions using Easy CD Creator 6 also.

So you can burn a disk image of the slipstream in Mac OS X? Or do you have to use Windows to burn it?

When you make the disk image using Nero under Virtual PC copy it to your Mac/OS X and double click on the image and Toast opens up then just burn it with Toast under OS X.
If you did it right you have a bootable Windows SP2 CD

You can download a demo for Nero 7. I used that a couple of weeks ago to slipstream a cd, worked great.

I was able to extract and run the SP2 installer in Darwine with the addition of a single DLL from a live XP install. Unfortunately it was unable to operate on my only pre SP2 XP CD (a Dell SP1a CD).

Should work fine as long as the Gateway CD doesn't have any hotfixes on top of the SP1a, that's the problem I had with the Dell CD, it was already part way along to SP2. You'll need the DLL from a working copy of Windows, or it might work better in Crossover than Darwine since I know you're playing with that...

It takes the CD, removes the hotfixes, then slipstreams SP2 onto it. You can also slipstream hotfixes and even programs on the CD with nLite. It even makes burn-ready ISOs. You can just transfer that ISO to the Mac and burn it. It's a great program, check it out.

There are also a number of sites that have instruction on how to manually "remove" the hotfixes (essentially, making them invisible to the SP2 updater and slipstreaming will work. I just didn't feel like doing that for an experiment.

Would nLite or AutoStreamer work better? I've downloaded both, but I suppose I'll try both anyway. I have a lot of CDs to burn (pun intended).

Once Apple releases fairly stable BootCamp drivers, as the current ones are lacking IMO, I will be slipstreaming the latest hotfixes and drivers into my XP install CD. It will be an almost fully automated, unattended install. Automatic partitioning, user account creation, time zone, networking, etc.
