Since the 5th generation iPad Pro has been out since spring, I was thinking it seems rather time for it to make its way to the Apple refurbished store. I’ve not seen it yet, wondering if anybody else has?

Any thoughts on if it’ll show up before or during the holidays?

Unlikely. The refurb 3rd and 4th gen iPad Pros were pretty much always out of stock for most of 2020 and 2021 and only became available after the 5th gen was released.

Well that’s incredibly helpful to know. Thanks!

Instead of refurb, check out sales from authorized retailers. Both Amazon and Best Buy recently offered $100-150 discounts on the entire iPad Pro line (I got the 11" 1TB 5G for $1550).

:) I'm with you--already looking at that. However, I was rather hoping to trade in my 2018 iPP 12.9 with Apple. (Over doing Swappa and private sales), so I'm debating on waiting until Black Friday and hope for a Gift Card and the trade-in numbers don't tank OR just buy through Amazon and trade-in with Apple to give myself credit for a future purchase.

Have you had good luck with Apple purchases on Amazon? I had a couple possibly shading deals a couple years ago and have stayed away since.

Also, I'm tentative because I have issues with all OLED screens because of the PWM and I'm not sure how the mini-LED will be. I tried in store, reduced brightness to less than 50%, read pdfs, seemed okay, but I've been burned by iPhones since the X so I'm shy.

Yes, I've also read that it's good to see "Visit the Apple Store" underneath the item's title or even just go through the apple store on amazon.

I'm excited now because they have the silver for $999. The past few days it's just been the space gray at that price while the silver was still $1049.

Tempting, tempting. Sitting in my cart. Tempting.

Price match at Target, use the Target Red Card, save 5% more…. Get it for $949.

The Apple Store on Amazon is a nice way to see the different models next to each other, but I much prefer Apple's return policy to Amazon's for computers and electronics. Amazon will only accept it if it's DOA, damaged from shipping, or unopened, and if it's not, may charge a restocking fee.

I don’t think it has shown up, although I find it helpful checking the refurb store of various countries to see if it’s a thing.

In Japan, the refurb store is often missing items available on the US store and vice versa.

From Amazon:

People may have actually had more flexibility when returning a laptop to Amazon, but I wouldn't count on it, when this is their actual written return policy for computers.

Totally different from Apple:

I look at it this way: part of shopping is knowing how the company will handle it if there's an issue. Knowing any company's return policy, product warranty, and product support is just as important as the product price.

After sales support is why I own Apple products. Being able to get service basically anywhere in the world is worth a premium, IMO.

That's standard for Amazon. They can also lock your account if you have too many returns so I'm careful with what I buy from them.

I only buy iPads from Amazon if there's a good discount and I know I'm not going to return (barring defectiveness). If there's a chance I might return an item (e.g. iPad mini 6), I just buy from Apple.

I don't tend to nitpick my devices so Amazon's return policy works fine for me most of the time. For warranty issues, I can go directly to Apple anyway regardless of which retailer I buy from.

You just saved me a lot of heartache! I went back and clicked on the small, hidden hyperlink about the return policy, and I saw exactly what you’re talking about and cancelled that order. Since I’m not sure how I’ll do with the mini-LED, no returns is no bueno.

Thanks!

I agree. Think this is a good example of complacency and assumption. I buy a lot from Amazon and regularly look for the “free returns” tag below the price, but my brain just assumed—because it’s Apple?!—that returns would be inevitable. Fortunately in this case, this reminder didn’t cost me.

Yeah, pretty sure this is why I stick with Apple. Like how they roll. This just reminded me why.

As I understand it, Target only price-matches with themselves? The website currently says they will price-match if their price decreases before Christmas.

No, their site gives a list of 20-30 websites they match with, including Amazon.com, bestbuy.com, Newegg.com

Yes, I was reading that--a nice long list--but I was reading more of the fine print, and it said things like the item has to be currently in stock and other little things. You know, like they want to make it a challenge. :)

But it's a good idea, and I'll likely try.

Well, everyone sort of HAS to do that. I can't a small local competitor, I get 5 iPads, I sell them for $100 off. But when I sell all 5 really fast.... then Target needs to price match and sell all 20 they get for $100 off?

Best Buy also price matches, put that on your Best Buy Rewards card to get 5% in rewards.

I've seen Amazon sales that go for a few hours and then go away, then come back, go away. Really tricky trying to price match with Amazon, as when you leave the house, it might be on sale, then when you get to Target, it's not on sale anymore.

Anyways, I see that Staples is selling 11" iPad Pro 128gb, for $699 ($100 off) on Sunday. You can price match that with Target, use the Target card and get it for $664.

The Air 4 hasn’t even shown up yet, released more than half a year before the Pro. Until that has been on for a while, I wouldn’t expect the Pro to appear.
